Oldtowne
District 4. Oldtowne on the maps; Ashland on the streets. The first district to burn its Alderman, then quietly rebuilt itself under 'pirates law.' The Federation pretends nothing changed.

Oldtowne is what the Federation still prints on the maps. Ashland is what the residents have called it since the Wilding — the day the citizens dragged their District Alderman from the ward house and hung what was left of him in the district center as a message.
After the Alderman fell, Rollers and AIS agents pulled back. The factions stepped in, drew up their own truce, and called it 'pirates law.' By every formal metric, Oldtowne now reports moderate wealth and low crime — a quiet, stable district. By every honest one, that stability is enforced by the factions themselves, not by the Federation.
Streets are narrow, half-cobbled, half-collapsed, tangled with mid-rise housing, family-run storefronts, and the scorched skeletons of buildings lost in the Rex99 riots. The wards run themselves. Disputes are settled by ward captains and faction enforcers, not Rollers. The only Federation presence is a token Roller barracks near the old ward house, kept up to maintain the official fiction.
Operators who respect the neighborhood and the unwritten code are tolerated, sometimes welcomed. Operators who try to operate like they're in Kurstmore tend to disappear into the Wilding's ledgers.
